first project, yr two

the concept for this project was to capture the essence of an athlete in an architectural form thus being a building..

the three tiers resembles the symbolic progression to an athlete.bronze, silver, gold

the top structure takes inspiration form human muscles, ligaments and tendons, the unique design also resembles the appearance of a stadium.

the base of the building takes inspiration from body builders allowing the building to be elevated like an athlete standing on a podium.

the bronze shutters on the top are a key part of the design. resembles the feeling an athlete embraces when competing.closed being shut of in there own place, open means that they are zoning in on its prize.

the two vertical supports give the illusion that its holding a lot of tension, ready to release its energy as does a sprinter do when taking off the starting line.

the building stands proud and confident as does an athlete do when showing off their trophy.

rustic coffee table

in my spare time i decided to build a rustic coffee table from old scaffold boards, to retain even more detail i included the metal ends that were originally on them. the process took about 2 hours to figure out and build. once it was all complete i sanded it down to create a smooth surface then applied a wax to pick up the grain of the wood.

bathroom vanity unit

here is a image of a bathroom vanity unit my brother built , we both share similarities in trends and styles within design ,which in turn I incorporate this into the interior side as he does with architecture. here he has used walnut and a concrete work top,to achieve this colour he used normal builder sand if you are unaware what this is it looks like the ( sand you see at the beach), but to achieve a more grey tone you use sharpe builder sand which has more grit in it. we both believe that the concrete compliments the walnut and allows it to be come more rich in design. the concrete is a simple method and achieves a very durable look with certain materials and is also cheap and easy to produce and the final look is very impressive as you can see.

small summer project

during my summer break i helped my brother with his back yard located in jesmond.

looking at these images its hard to imaging the bomb site that it looked like before hand. At the rear we built a water feature with a steel grid on top allowing you to walk over , a nice divider between the plants and decking. we had to build small walls which would support the timbers and also to retain the water.

sadly i have lost all the images showing how we created the concrete planters, basically we built two carcases which we could pour the concrete mix into. this was a long spell of time creating these as you could imagine. in total it took us 3 weeks to see the finished design.
