PROJECT ONE

The first project whilst studying Interior Architecture at Newcastle College.

firstly we chose a designer that we knew nothing about this enabled us to widen our knowledge in the field of design.

whilst studying my chosen Architect Mies Van Der Rohes i was able to design a sculpture that replicated his designs and personality.

The design we were to create was also a place for one to reflect.

The model enables you to interact with the 3D form this will enhance the emotions when one is reflecting in this space.

It is an inspirational object as it gives the impression of floating by itself elegantly in the centre of the gallery space.

You are able to interact with the environment by this i mean you can touch the materials the inspires Mies Van Der Rohe when he creates his master pieces.

What inspires me the most is that the materials he uses are very dense materials i,e marble, but the way he constructs his designs he makes them look light.

When looking at his designs they are flooded with richness and powerful material chose in some ways it reflects him as a person.

Throughout my research i also wanted to create, not only a structural design but allowing it to become a piece of modern art. As i was inspired by cubism. The shadows that are being projected on the surrounding walls create this effect.

The sensation I want one to feel when interacting with my structural form is

1. Passionate- Courageously pursuing what they know is their passion in their life is a common trait.

2. Never giving up - The stick to it attitude no matter what obstacles may be found in their way separates the ordinary from the extraordinary.

3. Mindset - This is an internal programming that lets them know they will achieve their goal. There is no doubt in their minds that everything they can imagine is achievable.

4. Discipline - They make their goals or achievements seem natural or easy.

5. Raising the bar - by reaching goals, or stretching their reality to achieve results, they in turn stretch the reality of those around them.

The overall room will be very simplistic and all the existing architrave will be removed as it does not suit the overall theme. Two black walls will enhance the height of the structure.

The form does not sit flush on the floor as i was inspired by my architects pavilions (elevated from the ground).
